Just five more days until I peddle my wares at Wright State University's Glory Con 2014. If they deliver on the activities offered on their poster, it looks like it'll be a great time!
I've been a dealer at only one other convention thus far but I don't know if I can even really count it, it was so bad. I won't name it because I don't like spreading around too many sour grapes, but I will say it was very much a first-time con and quite possibly won't have a second run. To be fair, I know nothing about actually running a convention but my experience as a vendor was almost to lousy to believe. The main draw was a car show, and that's fine - you need to try and get a crowd from somewhere - but it was spouted as a gaming convention. There were more vendors than customers (minus the people who came for the cars and left when that ended), some advertisements accidentally named the wrong location (which didn't help matters), and those in charge didn't even TRY to have ANY of the promised panels or gaming. Not that there were many people to attend them, but they didn't even try. Add to that paying a ridiculous sum of money to be there and not making a single sale and the result was I didn't bother to come back the second day. I didn't even bother trying to get some of my vendor fee back, I was so exhausted by the futility of the whole thing.
But Glory Con I feel better about. It may be small but I'm expecting that - it's a local university convention after all. The registration and everything is perfectly in line with the level of event, very affordable for their college target market, and it's a con that's been, as far as I can tell, semi-established for a few years. I'm looking forward to being there and dressing up. Maybe I'll even sell some things! I love cons and I'm excited that I'll be able to be in their dealers room. Hope to see all Daytonian fandom there!
