It's been a while since I've written and I certainly haven't been documenting my adventures here at
the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. That will have
to be rectified soon, but today, encouraged by begs
for information from far away friends, I'll indulge
in talking about another adventure - my up-
coming marriage to my most wonderful fiance.
I'm far away from him right now and it's been rough. It's not as if I can't enjoy myself without him here or that my happiness is unutterably linked to his presence, but I'm only halfway through my six month contract and I know I never, ever want to have to be this far away for this long again. Not if we can help it. Technology helps of course; we text, we Facebook, we call from time to time. Most days it just feels like one of those days when we don't hang out in person, no big deal. Other days are harder, like when he tells me about going to trivia with friends and knowing I can't hop in my car and join him. But I can take comfort in my wedding planning. Everything I get done or decide on or find reminds me that I'm less than a year away from starting my marriage to my best friend, even if I can't get as much done as I want to sometimes, being several states away from where the wedding will take place.
But enough emotional ranting, how about some of the juicy details you've been looking for?
We summarize the theme as "Simple and Cheap" but more specifically it will be vintage, and a bit quirky like the theme of the invites/wedding website; colors: deep purple and possibly blue for the bridal party, though I'm leaning toward dusty pink for flowers - we'll see.

As you may notice from the caption, the website I'm using is mywedding.com and I definitely recommend them for any of you future brides out there! Their site's easy to use and customize and I love that you can order invites and things that match your website's theme. Back to bridal party, I'll be having my maids wear their own black dresses (an approach I first saw at a cousin's wedding and now appears to be something of a trend according to the internet) with matching hair scarves and bouquets. The boys will be in matching vests and bow ties. The ceremony will be held at a beautiful park in Dayton next June, among our family and a few of our closest friends. Since the space at the pavilion in the park is limited most of our friends will just be invited to the reception. |
In keeping with our theme, the decor at the reception will be simple and homemade. Decorated mason jar candle holders for centerpieces, and some globe lights strung about the space for ambiance. Instead of a guestbook we're going to collect river rocks for people to sign and keep them in a decorative vase. |
I've found my dress; it's from a shop called Hinesite Vintage in downtown Lancaster. If you love vintage and ever happen to be near Lancaster, PA, make a point of finding time to go downtown. There are several absolutely excellent vintage shops there, Hinesite being especially full of fantastic clothing and accessories. No full pictures in case Ian reads
this post but here's a teaser. It's a 1950's
stock gown, never been worn. The original
shop tag was still on it! I was so tickled when
a few days later I found paper doilies on sale
at Michael's that had the same sort of
scalloped edge AND a rose pattern; they'll
be perfect for my centerpieces and match my dress too - themes abound! At another of the vintage shops down the road I got a pair of lovely mesh gloves and found some lovely ivory shoes on sale at the mall. My outfit's nearly complete! I still need a veil but I'm going to look at my mother's the next time I go home before settling for anything pre-made. The dress also came with a pair of short sleeve-gloves that I may use to make or add to a veil.
After the wedding we'll move in together in Athens, OH where Ian is beginning his Master's in Philosophy. I may even look into joining the Master's of Theatre program there. After that, who knows where the world will take us. I'm just glad I get to explore it with the love of my life.
